SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

About the Role:

HERCO is an 18-year old company located in Auburn Hills, MI. HERCO provides air filtration, spray systems, tooling equipment and services into the HPDC – High Pressure Die Casting manufacturing industry. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all mechanical components and assemblies meet rigorous quality, safety, and performance standards. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including controls engineering, production, purchasing, and project management to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions. They will also oversee welding and fabrication processes to guarantee structural integrity and compliance with industry standards. Ultimately, this position drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency across manufacturing projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering within the manufacturing industry.

• Proven expertise in machine building, preferably water system design and implementation.

• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with welding and fabrication techniques.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software and mechanical design tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

• Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.

• Experience with project management and leading engineering teams.

• Expertise in Autodesk Inventor and additive manufacturing.

• Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME, AWS, and ISO related to mechanical and welding processes.

• Knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermal systems as applied to manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems related to water systems, ensuring functionality and compliance with specifications.

• Lead and supervise welding and fabrication activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs into manufacturing processes and resolve technical challenges.

• Conduct detailed analysis and testing of mechanical systems to validate performance and identify areas for improvement.

• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and maintenance procedures, to support manufacturing and operational teams.
